Remziye Alper,

Soprano lyric spinto, opera and concert singer.                     

Born in Sudak - Crimea, the family left their homeland when she was two months old and in 1948, after four years in Austria, they settled in Turkey. Alper graduated as a mezzo-soprano in 1963 from the State Conservatory in Ankara where she was a pupil of Frida Böhme, Carlo Galeffi and Maria Carena and was appointed as a soloist within the State Opera in Ankara, taking many leading roles. 

During the summer of 1964, she studied with Prof.Clemens Glettenberg in Munich and in 1966, won a scholarship from DAAD to study at "Die Hochschule für Musik in Köln" with Prof. Peter Witsch. In 1974, Alper went to Rome to study Italian opera at the Accademia Santa Cecilia under Madame Gianna Pederzini's supervision. During this period, as a soprano, she concentrated on Verdi. In the following years she continued her studies with Madame Gina Cigna in Palermo and also attended Sommerakademie "Mozarteum" in Salzburg studying Mozart operas with Maestro Ralf Weikert.

Ms. Alper performed leading roles in Ankara State Opera between 1963-1982 and has been singing in Istanbul State Opera prima-roles starting from 1982. (See repertoire for detailed a info.)

In addition to her career in Turkey, she performed operas, concerts with orchestras, recitals and programs for radio-TVs in USA, Italy, Germany, Belgium, France, Spain, Bulgaria, Hungary, Rumania, Austria, etc. Within the 100th anniversary program, she gave some concerts and recitals in the USA and Austria.

Also, together with those singing contests and international concerts, in 1981, she made an LP covering Turkish composers’ repertoire and won an award in France with that album.

At  the moment, she has been teaching her superior singing technique and mastery to her pupils in the Istanbul University State Conservatory and trying to transfer her success to the next generation.
